The Chemical Engineering and Technology program of Tianjin University of Technology was founded in 1978, originally named Chemical Engineering. Asone of the university’s founding disciplinesit boasts a profound heritage and solid academic foundation. In 1996,the Organic Chemical Engineering and Chemical Engineering programs merged to form the current Chemical Engineering and Technology program.Themajoralsohas achieved steady progress in disciplinary development. It was authorized to award the Master’s degree in Chemical Technology in 2002 and the Master’s degree in the first-level discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology in 2010.In 2011, it wasselected for the Tianjin Excellent Engineer Education and Training Programand its affiliated discipline was recognized as aTianjin Key Discipline.ThemajorpassedEngineering Education Accreditationin 2018 and was listed among the National First-class Undergraduate Majors in 2019.
This major has a strong faculty team. Currently, there are 26 full-time teachers, including 7 doctoral supervisors, 22 master’s supervisors, 7 professors, and 15 associate professors. Among thefaculty members, there is 1scholar honoredas a recipient of theNational Hundred-Thousand-Ten-Thousand Talent Project and2recipients of the State Council Special Allowance.The program is supported by a distinguished faculty of 26 full-time members, including 7 doctoral supervisors,22 master's supervisors, 7 professors, and 15 associate professors. Among them are 2 scholars honored under the National Hundred-Thousand-Ten-Thousand Talent Project and as recipients of the State Council Special Allowance; 1 scholar selected for the Tianjin University Discipline Leader Development Program; 3 scholars named to the Tianjin 131 Innovative Talent Development Program; 2 scholars recognized under the Tianjin University Young Core Innovative Talent Development Program; and 2 scholars selected for the Tianjin Youth Reserve Talent Development Program. In recent years, faculty members have actively engaged in research, undertaking more than 60 projects at the national, provincial/ministerial, and enterprise-commissioned levels, with total funding exceeding RMB 200 million. They have published over 100 papers in internationally renowned journals such as Journal of the American Chemical Society, Chemical Engineering Journal, Green Chemistry, and ACS Catalysis, and have been granted more than 30 invention patents. Faculty members have also mentored undergraduate students in publishing over 10 academic papers as first authors.
The major places great emphasis on curriculum construction and teaching reform.It currently offers 2 Tianjin Municipal First-Class Undergraduate Courses and 4 university-level first-class courses.In recent years, it has completed over 20 teaching reform projectsat the Tianjin municipal and university levels, published 5 professional textbooks, and published over 20 teaching reform papers. It hasreceived multiple teaching achievement awards at both university and municipal levels.Our students have excelled in various competitions,earning over 30 provincial/ministerial-level awards and above in events such asthe National College,Students’Innovation Competition, the“Challenge Cup”and the National Chemical Engineering Design Competition. This is a four-year undergraduate program with more than 400 enrolled students. The postgraduate admission ratehas remained consistently above 30%, sending a large number of outstanding graduates to prestigious universities under Project 985 and Project 211 for further study.
Adhering to the principle of undergraduate-centered education, the program leverages high-quality teaching and research platforms including Tianjin Key Disciplines, Tianjin Key Laboratory, National Engineering Education Practice Base, Experimental Demonstration Center andinternship and practical training bases.Focusing on featured research directions such as green chemical technology, new catalytic materials and new energy sources, weestablished an integrated talent development system combining foundational knowledge acquisition, innovative thinking cultivation, and engineering practice training.The program hasa substantial number of high-caliber specialized applied professionalsfor the chemical, pharmaceutical, new material and new energy industries in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, making positive contributions to local economic development.
