The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Tianjin University of Technology was established in 1979.After more than four decades of growth and advancement, the School now offersa doctoral program in the first-level discipline of Chemistry; three academic master’s programs inChemical Engineering and Technology, and two professional master’s programs inMaterials and Chemical Engineering and Biology and Medicine; four undergraduate programs including Chemical Engineering and Technology, Applied Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Engineering, and Pharmacy;two have been designated National First-Class Undergraduate Program,twoTianjin Municipal First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites ,two have passed Engineering Education Accreditation,one discipline is recognized as a Tianjin Key Discipline.
The School houses 11,000 square meters of research facilities and is equipped witha series of high-quality teaching and research platforms, including the National Engineering Practice Education Center, Tianjin Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Fundamental Chemistry, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Organic Solar Cells and Photochemical Conversion, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Drug Targeting and Bioimaging, and Tianjin International Cooperative Research Center.
The School’s faculty is distinguished by its extensive teaching experience and outstanding research capabilities.Currently, there are17 scholars with national or provincial/ministerial talent titles, including Distinguished Professors under the National Major Talent Program and candidates for the National Hundred-Thousand-Ten-Thousand Talent Project.Over80% of thefaculty membershold doctoral degrees.
The School has established 15 research teams specializing in areas such as green synthesis and asymmetric catalysis, R&D of organic functional materials, functional coordination and inorganic materials, photoelectro-chemistry of nano-materials, green catalytic synthesis, organic solar cells, energy materials chemistry and engineering, biomass resources and low-carbon catalysis, targeted drugs and green energy materials, high-value green and low-carbon recycling of industrial waste, modern mass transfer and separation process enhancement, crystal engineering applications, pharmaceutical co-crystal R&D, comprehensive natural drug development, and medical polymer materials. These teams have coalesced into four distinctive and competitive research directions: Synthetic Science and Molecular Engineering, Green Catalysis and Energy Chemistry, Resource Recycling and Efficient Separation, and Bio-manufacturing and Pharmaceutical R&D. Over the past five years, the School has undertaken more than 200 research projects at the national, provincial/ministerial, and enterprise levels, including over 30 funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.It has published over 500 papers inleadingdomestic and international journals such asJ. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Chem., Adv. Energy Mater., etc.It has also obtained over 70 invention patents.Faculty membershaveobtained more than 70 invention patents, and received 8 provincial/ministerial science and technology awards.
The School is committed to the comprehensive cultivation of students' scientific literacy in chemistry, innovative thinking, and engineering skills.In recent years,students haveearned over 200 provincial/ministerial-level and above awards in competitions including the“Challenge Cup”National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, the China International“Internet+”Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the National Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Design Competition.The majority of graduates have become key technical professionals in research institutes, industrial enterprises, and mining companies.A number of graduates have gone on to become experts or assume significant leadership roles in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biomedical industries,contributing substantially to national economic development as well as the development and opening-up of Tianjin and the Binhai New Area.
