Electrocatalysis

Electrocatalysis is an important component to many different energy and industrial applications. Our lab is interested in electrocatalysis and electrochemical materials for highly effective energy storage and conversion systems.

1. CO2 reduction

Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction to produce fuels and industrial chemicals offers a technological solution to global energy and environment issues.

Since Hori’s work on CO2 reduction with metal electrodes, Cu electrode attracts many attentions due to its unique capability to form hydrocarbons. However, its application strongly limited by the high overpotentials needed and a variety of products with low selectivity.

In this project, we design various Cu-based electrocatalyst to direct the selectivity and lower the overpotential for CO2 reduction.

2. Water splitting

Splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen is one of the most attractive options for storing renewable energy.  Our research is to design the low-cost, highly active and stable catalysts for water splitting.
